In the previous sections we have dealt with the way how to choose keywords, how to use keywords in Page Titles, how to write Description, what are meta tags and the HTML structure of a web page. Now, we’ll take a step further and examine the H tags – so called headings – in a web page content from SEO aspects.

What are Headings in web page contents?

Many tags in HTML within the content of a web page have been developed not only to help with formatting, but to supply data on the structural hierarchy of a document (content material). With the intention to facilitate accessibility and Internet standards, it’s best to make use of the H tags for the supposed function within the data hierarchy, rather than for pure formatting purposes. However, its advantage is that in lots of circumstances, doing so can even make your document simpler to edit.
So, correct placing of Headings and Subheadings –  such as <H1></H1>; <H2></H2>; and so on – has a huge importance. I’ll explain it why.

First of all, we have already talked about the Title-Description-Meta Tags unit. Within this unit you can find a harmony: our Title and Description contain the same keywords what your page content has been built about. Now, when visitors come to your page after their search, they will be curious fro your product or service. After the Title, Description the next part will be your Page Title within the content they read. This is called H1 tag, and its size is differs from the simple paragraphs’ letter size. This H1 will tell more about you offered products or service, and in addition to also will tel search engines that your page is relevant, because not only your Title, Description was made about the particular topic, but the content as well. Since Internet is about information, this relevancy will definitely mean advantage in the “eyes” of the various Search Engines. That is, your search engine friendly page – or post – structure will help you in reaching higher position: this is the way to get higher ranking.
In the other H Tags – H2, H3, H4 and so on, subheadings – you can write more about various sub features of your offered products and services. In order to avoid confusion, it is highly suggested to place only ONE H1 tag, moderate quantity of H tags (2, max 3 pieces – it depends on you topic), and the necessary pieces of H3 and other tags as explanation of the things you offer.
If you are not aware of the meaning of e.g. <h1></h1> tag, you will not be able to change the structure of your Heading in a web page content or optimize it for SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

How to place Headings in Web Page contents or Blog Posts?

For instance, if you have a WordPress blog site with several pages and lot of posts, you have to be aware of the following facts:

1. Page Title and H Tags

Your Page Title – which will appear in the Navigation Bar – is NOT the same as your H1 tag on your particular page. That is only the Title of your page. It can be a SEO Title – as a search engine will see it – or simply the Title within your site structure. As an example:
Your Homepage SEO Title is: “This Is The SEO Title Of My Home Page”, but it sees as Home Page from within you Menu.
Then, you can place your H1, H2, H3 – and other H tags as well – within your page content as you wish.

2. Post Title and H tags

This is the part where you should be careful. The most blog software – so WordPress, Blogger also – automatically create a H1 tag for you. Basically, your Post Tile will be equal to your H1 headings tags. What does it mean? Because it not so healthy, the next suggested headings tag is H2, NOT H1.
For example: “This Is The Title Of My New Blog Post” = SEO Title of your post AND H1 tag.

Why and how should you change your Headings?

Don’t go so far away: see only the widget section of your blog site: if you want to place a simple advertisement within your widget, you know how to do import and integrate the given script into your TEXT area, because skipping this step could result in a misunderstandable, unworkable or failed layout, which definitely will not help you to reach your desired goals. In order to prevent these failures you must pick up some programming knowledge. There are several text editors and not every kind of them allows you to change you HTML structure or is capable of coping with this problem, so you cannot avoid learning some HTML.

I hope I could help you in your better understanding and now you know the role of Headings in web page contents.
